OER & LLM: The Perfect Couple
There are millions of Open Educational Resources (OER) available for educators to use in their classrooms. However, many resources lack depth, accessibility, or fail to meet the diverse needs of students. This module will demonstrate how to use Large Language Models (LLM) like AI to modify and supplement existing OER, making them more robust, inclusive, and supportive for all learners. You’ll learn strategies to improve the quality of OER, enhance accessibility, and integrate common accommodations for students with 504 plans and IEPs. Additionally, we’ll explore how AI can help address equity, inclusion, and representation in OER, bringing culturally responsive teaching to the forefront of your resources.
Objectives
- Use AI tools for improving accessibility, quality, and inclusivity.
- Modify OER to incorporate accommodations and modifications that support students on 504 plans and IEPs.
- To explore how AI can be leveraged to address issues of equity, inclusion, and representation in educational materials, supporting culturally responsive curriculum development.
