01.01.01a - Discussion: What Do Founding Stories Share?
Completion requirements
Look back at the five epic traditions described in the lesson (Gilgamesh, Mahabharata, Sundiata, Popol Vuh, Kalevala). Then consider what you learned about Anglo-Saxon culture.
- Choose one of the epic traditions listed (or another founding story you know from any culture, including your own family or community traditions).
- In 3-5 sentences, identify one value or theme that your chosen story shares with the Anglo-Saxon values described in this lesson. Use specific details.
- Then respond to at least one classmate's post: What did their comparison help you notice that you hadn't considered?
There is no single right answer here. The goal is to start seeing patterns across cultures.
Discussion Protocol (TAG Method)
When responding to classmates:
- Tell something specific you appreciated about their comparison
- Ask a genuine question their post raised for you
- Give a connection: share how their idea connects to something you've noticed
This is our first discussion together. Take a risk. Share what genuinely interests you. There are no wrong cultural connections.
