What's This About? You've spent five units building your toolkit as a writer—from crafting worlds to developing characters, writing convincing dialogue, structuring compelling narratives, and refining your work through revision. Now it's time to step back and see the big picture. This isn't just about listing what you've learned; it's about understanding how these skills strengthen each other and create a more powerful voice as a writer. Think of it like leveling up in D&D: each ability makes the others stronger.

Your Quest

  1. Review your work from Units 1–5. Pull out at least one example from each unit that you're proud of. This could be a world-building passage, a character description, a piece of dialogue, a story excerpt, or a revision exercise.
  2. Create a "Skill Synthesis Map" using one of these formats (your choice):
    • A visual concept map showing how skills connect (draw connections between world-building, character, dialogue, narrative structure, and revision)
    • A written reflection (400–500 words) explaining how your skills work together
    • An annotated portfolio with 5 work samples and thoughtful commentary on each
  3. For each skill area (world-building, character development, dialogue, narrative structure, revision), identify:
    • One specific technique you've developed
    • One example from your own work that demonstrates it
    • One connection to another skill area
  4. Include a "Growth Statement" (3–5 sentences) that honestly assesses where you started and where you are now.

The Five Skill Areas to Consider

World-Building: The settings, cultures, magic systems, and environments you create.

Character Development: How you craft complex, believable characters with depth and motivation.

Dialogue: The conversations and voice you give your characters.

Narrative Structure: How you organize your story—plot, pacing, point of view, and story shape.

Revision: Your ability to read your own work critically and improve it.

What to Submit

Submit your Skill Synthesis Map (in your chosen format) plus your Growth Statement. Both should reflect genuine reflection on your creative writing journey.
